Dear Parents

Reading:  The letters n, p, c, and a will be introduced this week with their sounds.   The class will work on labeling items around the room to help encourage labeling during the writing process.  Identifying the difference between letters and words will continue.

Math:  We will discuss various ways to sort items by their attributes (size, color, shape, type, etc.).  Identifying objects and numbers 1-5 will be introduced.

Writing:  Our book study on Eric Carle will continue this week.  Writing an informational book to tell about something that is important to your child or something that they know a lot about, will be introduced. (Examples: family, a sport, animals, etc.)  When we study Eric Carle’s books, we will focus on keeping our books on a single topic.

Theme:  Color week will continue.  Your child will not need to pack a snack this week thanks to the great volunteers that have signed up to send in snacks.  Please send in a snack each day if you have any concerns with possible food allergies.  Your child will need to start bringing their own snack to school starting next week.

  • Activity of the week – Have your child complete a scavenger hunt throughout your house finding an item each night that begins with a letter sound that had been introduced.  (m, s, r, t)  Complete one letter nightly or complete several letters each night for a challenge.
  • Please turn in your child’s $3.00 party money if you have not already done so.
  • I have attached two book orders that will be due by Thursday, September 6.  (It says the 5th, but I will wait until Thursday due to the holiday.  You may order online at Scholasticbookclubs.com using the code GZVG4 or send in a check with your child’s attached order form.  If you have any questions about book orders, please let me know.
  • School will not be in session on Monday, September 3th or Tuesday September 4th in observance of the Labor Day holiday and a teacher professional development day.

Have a great week!

Dear Parents

Reading:  The letters m, r, s, and t will be introduced this week with their sounds.   We will be creating a class book called “Hello _________, “so that we can get to know our friends and show the kids how they can already be classified as “Readers!”  Yes, they are already readers!  The children have been taught how to read pictures, how we read using words, and how we read by retelling stories.  The color words “red” and “blue” will also be introduced.

Math:  The definitions and characteristics of the words “same, similar, and different” will be discussed and demonstrated.

Writing:  We will complete a book study about the author Eric Carle.  A variety of books will be introduced and discussed.  His illustrations will also be compared.  The children will be encouraged to illustrate and write about (label with letters, words, symbols, etc.) a topic that interests them.

Theme:  Color week begins this week.  Your child will not need to pack a snack for the next two weeks thanks to the great volunteers that have signed up to send in snacks.  Please send in a snack each day if you have any concerns with possible food allergies.

  • Activity of the week – Have your child practice writing the letters in their name on the attached sheet of paper.  Practice naming the letters as they write them.
  • The Kindergarten Parent breakfast has been scheduled for this Friday.
  • Please return any remaining school forms.

Have a great week!
